Padstow - So Much More than Rick Stein

Padstow - So Much More than Rick Stein

Padstow has become synonymous with Rick Stein over the last 10 years or so. Like many other visitors, I have enjoyed visiting his restaurants and cafes. However, there is so much more to enjoy on a trip here.

In the second instalment of blogs from my recent North Cornwall trip, I shine a spotlight on three local independent foodie businesses and one local artist who are well worth a visit to Padstow in their own right.

This local independent brewery makes the beer which is served in their tasting room and shop in Padstow. Both the beer and cider (which is brewed locally by Polgoon Vineyard in Penzance, Cornwall) is delicious and well worth a try. You can try beer on tap in the tasting room and buy bottles to take away. In the summer, they also have tables for customers to sit outside and have a relaxed drink with snacks. If you can’t make it to Padstow, then the good news is that you can buy it online too.

With breathtaking views overlooking the Camel Estuary, this licensed cafe is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Their food is always freshly made and delicious. Try the Fishfinger Sandwich (pictured) for lunch or their granola for breakfast. They have a large terrace and take reservations for dinner.

A firm favourite with all the family, this cafe is also just off the South West Coast Path, so it is ideal for ramblers or beach goers too.

Local Artist Caroline Walker

For me, food inspiration comes in many forms, one of which is the pictures which hang in my kitchen. Some of them are family photos and some of them, like the cow picture, are memories of happy family trips.

Caroline Walker is a really lovely local artist. Based in Wadebridge, she shows and sells her art in the Old Post Office in Padstow a few days a week. You can follow her on facebook for updates.

Caroline is always ready to talk about her work and has inspired both my children to invest in their own pictures too. A lovely place to get a signed Padstow memento (or two).

Bin Two

This lovely independent wine merchant is as busy in February (pictured here) as it is on a warm summer’s day. They do wine by the glass along with small snacks and are always incredibly friendly and helpful.

The few tables they have are often full so it’s fortunate that they also have a great selection of wine to buy to take home. We always make a point of popping in when we are in Padstow to see what they have.

If you can’t make it down to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, Bin Two offers a wine club and will deliver anywhere in the country.
